Nous comprenons mieux aussi comment l'Occident, à la fin du Moyen Age, entre dans "l'ère de la peur", destabilisé qu'il est par une série de malheurs exemplaires (guerres interminables, famines, épidémies), et par une crise des mentalités religieuses aggravée d'une profonde crise politique. Pour Jean Delumeau, l'Occident résiste jusqu'au XIVe au "raz de marée du satanisme". Pour l'historien américain Robert I. Moore, la cassure historique se situerait plutôt au début du XIIIe siècle. Le cas de l'Espagne est éloquent. La décentralisation politique, qui a supposé un bienfait général et a corrigé les excès d'un centralisme de longue haleine profondément lié au nationalisme espagnol, a ouvert la porte aux études spécialisées sur toute la géographie espagnole, dans les différents domaines de l'histoire, l'archéologie, l'anthropologie culturelle et autres. Ce déploiement s'est peu à peu accompagné du phénomène plus large de l'individualisme scientifique, qui fait que les vues d'ensemble des &lt;i&gt;grands narrateurs des destins communs&lt;/i&gt; ne trouvent plus de continuateurs chez les jeunes chercheurs, plus volontiers acquis à la cause d'un sillon particulier. de là à laisser de côté la pensée de l'Europe, médiévale et contemporaine, il y a un petit pas très facile à franchir, et qui porte ses fruits inmédiats de la main des petites déconstructions parcellaires. C'est au même temps un retour aux terroirs qui n'est plus dépendant des nationalismes, puisqu'il ne porte plus d'idéologie. Le Moyen âge disparaît, tout comme l'Europe, dans les récits microsociologiques, où, par exemple, une ville d'al-Andalus, Almeria, devient un précédent musulman des ports italiens, une légende des androgynes chez Platon devient une allégorie de la Renaissance, et la découverte d'un nouveau monde,  une identité psychologique capitaliste en voie de subjectivité. A su vez, la xarja romance tanto en poemas árabes como hebreos funciona como elemento estético y exotizante, pero no es menos expresivo de una clara normalización del bilinguismo, o trilinguismo para los judíos más cultos. El erotismo de la xarja proviene en buena medida de la explotación de un fantasma evidente, la attracción que desatan las palabras puestas en boca de una joven cristiana. Alessandro Vanoli dedicó también parte de su exposición a comentar ampliamente las implicaciones políticas, y en ningún caso inocentes, de las traducciones del árabe por parte de judíos y cristianos en la Península Ibérica. Para no entrar ahora en la primera fase de este proceso, que habría que remontar a las traducciones siríacas y árabes del corpus científico y filosófico griego, antes y durante el auge del Islam en Oriente, me conformaré con recoger aquí unas notas del taller, reescritas según mis propias ideas. Lo primero en mi opinión es la importancia de valorar en toda su dimensión el pragmatismo de las traducciones judías y cristianas. Lo único que se traduce es lo útil, que no es exactamente lo mismo en ambos casos ni en los sucesivos siglos (sobre todo del XI al XV). Para los judíos, será fundamental en su primer proceso traductor importar la literatura árabe, y crear así un corpus de literatura que asiente una identidad cultural que no transmita ninguna inferioridad con respecto a la árabe. Los cristianos, en esa época, ya tienen una literatura latina con un corpus profano amplísimo y que sanciona también la palabra divina, y no necesitan pues traducir la literatura árabe. Pero sí necesitarán traducir ciencias, contando con la mediación de la cultura sefardí para ello, y apropiarse de la medicina, el saber político (espejo de príncipes) y el racionalismo de los árabes (Averroes). La traducción no es en época medieval un ejercicio ni de diplomacia, ni de diálogo, ni mucho menos  de cosmopolitismo, por supuesto. Es la manifestación más eficaz del empeño dirigido y tutelado por agentes políticos (y la realeza ante todo) para competir con el rival cultural, identitario y geográfico. Buscando sobre Ceuta, que es otro puerto importante y que gana peso en los siglos XII y XIII, me he encontrado con el artículo de Médiévales: Henri &lt;span class="smallcaps"&gt;Bresc&lt;/span&gt;, «Îles et tissu « connectif » de la Méditerranée médiévale», &lt;em&gt;Médiévales,&lt;/em&gt; 47 (2004),  &lt;a href="http://medievales.revues.org/document823.html.%22"&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;a href="http://medievales.revues.org/document823.html"&gt;http://medievales.revues.org/document823.html&lt;/a&gt;.    El artículo es más que una reseña de la obra de los investigadores Peregrine Horden y Nicholas Purcell  &lt;em&gt;The Corrupting Sea. A Study of Mediterranean History&lt;/em&gt;, Oxford, 2000, puesto que sugiere sus propias consideraciones. Como lo que nos interesa en primera instancia es la Edad Media, copio una mitad de párrafo en la que plantea el afianzamiento en la Edad Media de las largas distancias, tras haber dudado de la importancia del cabotaje:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;blockquote&gt;"La Méditerranée est d'abord, au Moyen Âge, un ensemble de mers étroites, mais aux rives rarement complémentaires. Il faut donc aller chercher les produits et porter les hommes fort loin : dès les premiers documents de la Geniza, la Sicile est au cœur d'une relation entre Alméria et Alexandrie. Les îles petites et moyennes y perdent de leur intérêt : le modèle n'est pas celui d'un échange incessant entre niches écologiques voisines et complémentaires."&lt;/blockquote&gt;&lt;br /&gt;También copio esta referencia a Ceuta, que es presentada como un puerto "cosmopolita", al igual que el de Mahón en Mallorca, en el siglo XIII que tanto me interesa:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;blockquote&gt;"La neutralité politique du royaume de Majorque garantit l'ouverture œcuménique de son port. Ceuta, quasi-île, est également laissée dans un statut d'autonomie qui évoque le « port of trade » de K. Polyani. Alessandro Vanoli durante el taller me gustaría destacar esta vez algo de las primeras reflexiones sobre los problemas a la hora de trabajar con identidades políticas y religiosas, como hacemos cuando hablamos de judíos, musulmanes y cristianos en la Edad Media en la Península Ibérica. Son problemas de comunicación ligados en parte a nuestra época y a nuestras categorías epistemológicas e ideológicas. Por ejemplo, es evidente que supone una proyección política sobre el pasado usar términos como diálogo interreligioso o intercultural, pero no podemos obviar por ello los incesantes contactos medievales en estos ámbitos, aunque se inscribieran en un paradigma de oposiciones identitarias y no de convergencias humanistas, en general (cabe añadir la necesidad de pensar un ámbito de excepción en este sentido, el de la corte: aunque sea otra proyección política).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Las identidades definidas según las confesiones pueden ser reduccionistas; el hombre medieval no es menos pluridentitario que el de otras épocas, incluso mucho más recientes. Alessandro Vanoli me ha facilitado el enlace a la página específica de Reti Medievali en la que aborda las problemáticas ligadas al estudio del periodo medieval mediterráneo,  marcado por la polaridad entre el Islam y la Cristiandad (si se me permite usar aquí este término, que además habría que explicar), &lt;a href="http://www.rm.unina.it/repertorio/vanoli-islam.htm"&gt;Islam e occidente  nell'Italia medievale&lt;/a&gt;. He añadido el enlace a la derecha para que esté disponible de forma permanente, ya que además del texto introductorio contiene a su vez un importante repertorio de más enlaces que pueden sernos muy provechosos.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;La introducción del profesor Vanoli plantea desde el primer párrafo muchas preguntas que merecen ser poco a poco abordadas. Por ejemplo, cuestionar la homogeneidad de dos mundos, ni tan siquiera en la lengua empleada en las fuentes de cada uno, matizando este supuesto recordándonos no sólo la existencia de comunidades mozárabes en el ámbito de al-Andalus que escriben en latín, como la pervivencia de textos musulmanes escritos en español, que conocemos como aljamiados. O cuestionar las categorías anacrónicas que podamos formular como atajo propedéutico, ya sea "España musulmana" o "Sicilia árabe". Como sabéis, asistimos investigadores italianos, portugueses, franceses y españoles, provenientes de toda la geografía peninsular: de Galicia, de Valencia, de Castilla, de Madrid y de Andalucía, y nos acompañaron formadores de esos mismos países y de Marruecos. Este blog nace para que entre todas y todos demos una continuidad voluntaria y dinámica a lo que iniciamos en ese taller. Este es el primer arranque del intercambio y la comparación de ideas y conocimientos.
